Russian Warship Warned US Destroyer to Turn Around or Be Rammed

Says the Russian Ministry of Defense. Off the coast of Vladivostok

MOSCOW, November 24. /TASS/. Russia’s Admiral Vinogradov anti-submarine destroyer stopped the United States’ USS John S. McCain from violating the Russian border in the Peter the Great Gulf, the Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement.

According to the ministry, at 06:17 Moscow time (03:17 GMT) on Tuesday, the USS John S. McCain, which entered the Sea of Japan several days ago, violated Russia’s territorial waters in the Peter the Great Gulf, “passing the maritime border by two kilometers.”

“The Pacific Fleet’s Admiral Vinogradov anti-submarine destroyer used an international communication channel to warn the foreign vessel that such actions were unacceptable and the violator could be forced out of the country’s territorial waters in a ramming maneuver. After the warming was issued and the Admiral Vinogradov changed its course, the USS John S. McCain destroyer returned to international waters,” the statement said.

According to the Russian Defense Ministry, the US warship did not make attempts to re-enter Russia’s territorial waters. The Admiral Vinogradov continues its mission in the vicinity of the US vessel, the ministry noted, adding that “the Pacific Fleet’s Sovershenny corvette was dispatched to the area.”

China said in October that the USS John S. McCain had violated its territorial waters.

The USS John S. McCain is equipped with two Aegis missile defense systems. The vessel reportedly carries Tomahawk cruise missiles, SM-2 anti-aircraft missiles and RUM-139 ASROC anti-submarine weapons.

PETER THE GREAT BAY – On Nov. 24 (local time) USS John S. McCain (DDG 56) asserted navigational rights and freedoms in the vicinity of Peter the Great Bay in the Sea of Japan. This freedom of navigation operation (“FONOP”) upheld the rights, freedoms, and lawful uses of the sea recognized in international law by challenging Russia’s excessive maritime claims.

In 1984, the U.S.S.R declared a system of straight baselines along its coasts, including a straight baseline enclosing Peter the Great Bay as claimed internal waters. This 106-nautical mile (nm) closing line is inconsistent with the rules of international law as reflected in the Law of the Sea Convention to enclose the waters of a bay. By drawing this closing line, the U.S.S.R. attempted to claim more internal waters – and territorial sea farther from shore – than it is entitled to claim under international law. Russia has continued the U.S.S.R. claim. By conducting this operation, the United States demonstrated that these waters are not Russia’s territorial sea and that the United States does not acquiesce in Russia’s claim that Peter the Great is a “historic bay” under international law.

U.S. forces operate in the Indo-Pacific region on a daily basis, as they have for more than a century. They routinely operate in close coordination with like-minded allies and partners who share our commitment to uphold a free and open international order that promotes security and prosperity. All of our operations are designed to be conducted in accordance with international law and demonstrate that the United States will fly, sail, and operate wherever international law allows – regardless of the location of excessive maritime claims and regardless of current events.

The international law of the sea as reflected in the 1982 Law of the Sea Convention provides for certain rights and freedoms and other lawful uses of the sea to all nations. The United States upholds these rights and freedoms as a matter of principle to preserve the freedom of the seas that is critical to global security, stability, and prosperity. As long as some countries continue to assert maritime claims that are inconsistent with international law as reflected in the 1982 Law of the Sea Convention and that purport to restrict unlawfully the rights and freedoms enjoyed by all States, the United States will continue to defend the rights and freedoms of the sea guaranteed to all.

as it happens, the US Navy wants to uphold the 1982 Law of the Sea Convention to which the great USofA are not even a signatory (just in case they “needed” to sink anyone attempting to sail in the waters claimed by the said USofA)

This seems to be a coordinated game to me. The Russians are in on it. As they are with many things including covid, fake moon landings and space exploration. Russia is part of the beast system. This is only a show so that the military industrial complex can spend more money on both sides instead of feeding/freeing it’s people and making their lives better.

Well, until being threatened by Russia then the US will just yap like dogs and immediately get their warship out of Russian waters.

    Funny!

Named for John McCain – the same little front running fuck who almost sunk a US carrier off Vietnam and whined and squealed like a little piglet after being shot down. That lying, selfish gigolo should have been beaten to death with a led pipe. The Vietnamese would have done us a favor if they had kept him but, oh no, they had to give back our moron and we made him a senator! Hahahaha.

They should name a cemetery after ol’ John.
I wouldn’t include the word “memorial” within its title.

      It’s ironic, in a UN-controlled-by-Washington-imposed-illegal sanctions way.

Anyone taking a look at the pic of the McCain,,, (God, how I hate that name),,, can see the state of US Navy. It’s a rust bucket. Old and dilapidated. The corruption is so great in the US that they can no longer afford decent maintenance.

    Edit:
Can anyone believe this asshole and the US government actually speaking of International Law!

Sounds more like a FUBAR than a FONOP. Seems like these days the only folks actually protecting their borders are Russia and China. Question: do either of those countries have an illegal immigrant “crisis”?

      NOPE!
