Unelected EU Foreign Policy Tsar Berates Lukashenko for Not Meeting EU’s Democracy Standards
Standards for Belarus, not the EU
EU’s “High Representative” Josep Borrell:
The EU does not recognize Alexander Lukashenko as the president of Belarus, the bloc’s top diplomat said Tuesday.
“We are using all the tools that we have at our disposal to contribute to the end of the violent repression that has been developing in Belarus after the elections, which we do not consider to have legitimately elected Lukashenko,” Josep Borrell, the EU’s high representative for foreign affairs and security policy, told MEPs.
This is like that Dave Chappelle skit where a KKK ideologue learns that he too is black. An EU Politburo member pronouncing that Lukashenko isn’t democratically “legitimate”. At least Lukashenko ran in some sort of election and without a doubt got the most votes. Borrel rose up in a backroom deal.
Between the two I’d say Lukashenko is a lot more legitimate and a lot closer to an actual tribune of the demos.
But Guaido is democratically elected and Ecuador and Bolivia are shining examples, how democratic elections should look like!
