Trudeau Feeling Like a Used Tissue Right Now, Has Asked US Not to Sign China Trade Truce

Trudeau made himself an instrument in America's economic war on China only to be hung out to dry

Trudeau arrested the Huawei heiress (actually the father only owns 2 percent) on marching orders from Washington making himself an instrument in the latter’s war on China’s hi-tech sector. When he reaped the inevitable Chinese retaliation he was however left to fend for himself. This seems set to continue as Trump races ahead with the “Phase One” deal he needs to prop up the stock market valuations he feels he needs to have a chance in November.

Hey Trudeau have you been able to get Xi on the phone yet?:

Canada has asked the United States not to sign any final trade agreement with China until two Canadians detained in China have been released, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau told a French-language TV network.

It has been more than a year since Beijing detained Michael Spavor and Michael Kovrig in apparent retaliation for Canada’s arrest of a top Chinese tech executive, Meng Wanzhou.

She was arrested last December at the request of U.S. authorities who want her on fraud charges. [“Fraud.”] Just days later, Spavor and Kovrig were detained.

The two men were later charged with national security offences in what is widely believed to be an attempt to pressure Canada to release Meng, whose father is the founder of tech giant Huawei.

In an interview with TVA’s Salut Bonjour program aired Thursday, Trudeau outlined how Canada has asked the Trump administration to use ongoing trade talks with China as leverage in securing the release of the two Canadians.

“We’ve said that the United States should not sign a final and complete agreement with China that does not settle the question of Meng Wanzhou and the two Canadians,” Trudeau said in translated remarks.

Earlier this month, China’s foreign ministry said the Kovrig and Spavor cases had been transferred to prosecutors for review and prosecution.

In a wide-ranging interview with The Canadian Press this week, Trudeau said he regretted that Kovrig and Spavor have been caught up in the diplomatic row, but didn’t regret that Canada lived up to its extradition treaty with the United States.

Over the past year, the case has impacted Canada-China relations at virtually every level, said Trudeau.

“This is an issue that we take very seriously, that is a priority and is at the top of Canada’s relations with China, whether we’re engaging at the diplomatic level or at the trade level or at the leaders’ level,” he said Wednesday.

Global Affairs Canada said Thursday that Canadian consular officials visited Spavor on Monday and Kovrig on Tuesday, but did not disclose what was said in their meetings, citing privacy laws.

A number of countries and legislative bodies, including the United States, Germany, Australia, the United Kingdom, the European Union, the G7 and NATO have spoken out in support of the detained Canadians, calling for their release and in support of the rule of law.

The truth is that Canada did more than just uphold an extradition treaty with the United States. Canadian state agents arrested her on an aircraft that simply stopped in Canada for refueling and went searching through her belongings including her phone and laptop at the request of the United States. Canada isn’t some innocent third party here. Trudeau claimed that this case is about judicial independence but that’s clearly a lie as the political forces in Canada are speed bumping a ruling regarding her extradition and trying to link the whole matter to trade talks, as the U.S. has already done. Any doubt that she would have been extradited already if two Canadians had not been arrested in China? Any doubt that a truly independent court would have ruled on her extradition already in the nearly fourteen months of considering the case? Independent judiciary? The Court is literally waiting to be told by Ottawa what to rule. A farce.

The Court is literally waiting to be told by Ottawa what to rule.

And Ottawa is literally waiting to be told by Washington what to rule.

Trudeau: just get over yourself and do the right thing: stop the detention of Huawei’s CEO for the US.. let her go free and let those Washington bastards just twist in the wind! Then you would get your guys back!
And you wouldn’t look like the ass you are acting like.

Trudeau has been a non-stop disaster in office.

And continues along the same path with his new government, which, by the way, represents the votes of just under one-third of voters. Some democracy!

This is at least the second time he has foolishly appealed to Trump for help.

Previously he made a rush trip down to Washington to make a plea. The only known response was a quick visit to Canada by Mike Pompeo, blubbering the stuff he usually blubbers.

Trump is undoubtedly the most disliked man in China and is without influence there.

But the Boy Wonder just doesn’t get it.

Of course, he should never have arrested Huawei’s Ms Meng. He could easily have found a technical excuse for not complying with the American extradition request or seen to it that she was quietly warned not to land to avoid arrest, but he failed to act then, just as now.

Failure to act, in many spheres, has been a feature of his government. This former snow-board instructor and drama coach just does not have “the right stuff.” However, for about a third of the country, his flow of Millenialist mush combined with the magic of his father’s name still commands some respect.

His father, Pierre, was an entirely different man, brilliant, highly educated, courageous in his beliefs, and willing to challenge the United States when he thought them wrong.
Pierre opposed the United States on its policies in Cuba and in Vietnam. He threw open Canada’s doors to tens of thousands of American war-resisters and formed a long-term relationship with Cuba.

Canada’s good reputation in the world goes back to him and a few other notable leaders, like Lester Pearson, a man who turned down LBJ, despite being personally threatened, about sending troops to Vietnam.

Justin has forgotten all of that fine legacy. We never even hear a word about United States’ activity in Venezuela or Bolivia or Cuba.

And the economic war on China is tacitly supported as is all the Russia-phobia garbage.
