The EU Berates UEFA for Overruling German Plan to Make Hungary Play Them in a LGBT-Lit Arena

Talk about home-court advantage

You can’t hijack your status as a host of an international tournament for your current rage hour

Editor’s note: LOL, it’s hilarious. It’s a football game. It’s supposed to be fair. Germany already has the advantage of playing at home so you amp the psychological pressure on the embattled Hungarians (piled on by the EU and member-states) by making them play in a rainbow-lit stadium. How very classy. (The Hungarians still got a 2:2 draw out of the match vs favored Germany and held a lead until the 84th minute.) Sportsmanship zero. (At least the Hungarians have not been ejected from sports as happened to Yugoslavia in the 1990s.)

A top European Union official says he can not find “any reasonable excuse” for UEFA to reject host city Munich’s plans to display rainbow colours during a match between Germany and Hungary at the European Championship.

UEFA said it understood the city’s intention to send a message to promote diversity and inclusion but stressed that it was “a politically and religiously neutral organisation” after it denied the application to have the stadium illuminated in support of LGBT rights.

“Yes, I find it very difficult to understand what UEFA is trying to do by going against this initiative of the Munich city council,” European Commission Vice-President Margaritis Schinas said during a news conference ahead of Wednesday’s match.

“Frankly, I do not find any reasonable excuse for that.”

Schinas said he was even more surprised by the decision since the governing body of European soccer has previously supported campaigns for inclusion and against racism.

“They supported all the good causes. And all of a sudden, they make an issue out of this,” he said.

UEFA, which has the final say as tournament organiser, previously said it had to decline the request from Munich because of its political context — “a message aiming at a decision taken by the Hungarian national parliament”.

“UEFA respects the rainbow,” the governing body of football in Europe said in a statement on Wednesday.

“It is a symbol that embodies our core values, promoting everything that we believe in — a more just and egalitarian society, tolerant of everyone, regardless of their background, belief or gender.”

UEFA insisted that the decision to turn down the request was misinterpreted by those who perceived it as a political statement.

“On the contrary, the request itself was political, linked to the Hungarian football team’s presence in the stadium for this evening’s match with Germany,” it said.

“For UEFA, the rainbow is not a political symbol, but a sign of our firm commitment to a more diverse and inclusive society.”

UEFA proposes holding display on different date

Munich Mayor Dieter Reiter’s application to UEFA made clear the city wanted to protest a law passed by Hungarian lawmakers last week that prohibits sharing with minors any content portraying homosexuality or sex reassignment.

UEFA said it believes “that discrimination can only be fought in close collaboration with others” and it proposed that Munich illuminates the stadium with rainbow colours on June 28 for Christopher Street Day, a day celebrating LGBT rights, or between July 3-9 for the Christopher Street Day week in the city.

Several other stadiums in Germany that are unaffiliated with the Euro 2020 tournament said they would light up their venues in rainbow colours.

Why are you trying to make the EU responsible for the actions of a political leader who they clearly hate? He is a fascist and they want him out of the EU or stopped.

The stubborn politicizing of sport goes on, and eventually there will either be no professional international sport events, or it will have gone the other way and be entirely given over to politicking. What will not happen is that a demographic will remain which wants to stay out of the liberals incessant sexualization games and ever-increasing ‘gender freedom’, and only wants to watch sports. Everything must be subordinated to politics. Anarchy looks more appealing all the time.

Injecting quasi-political causes into a world where they are not popular, sports fans not really known for their activism, only makes them unpopular. That is the aim.

There are 1000 images of rainbows on the internet and the LGBT thing is not a rainbow. They should give it their own name like lgbtbow, mixedbow anything that fits, as rainbow is hardly correct if not false.

I suppose the far-right who now control our world are hoping they will create more homophobia by rubbing everyone’s nose in it via events like this.
Most gays & trans will be as pissed off by this as anyone else. they are being used in a political pantomime.
