That Time Azov Celebrated Bosnian Serb General Ratko Mladić

Held up as a role model

I’m not sure when this video was made. Was it before 2014 or after? (Perhaps prior to 2014 is likelier because there isn’t a firearm in sight.)

In any case, the Azov leader Biletsky holds up Ratko Mladić as an example of a patriot of his people, just as he says they are patriots of Ukraine. Then everyone shouts Glory to Ukraine and Glory to Ratko Mladić.

Ratko Mladić is an Orthodox Christian who fought NATO.

So what is your point? Biletsky very accurately described Mladic “as an example of a patriot of his people.” How would you describe the head of any military who steadfastly defends his people from harm during times of war? Mladic is demonized by the West, as are Serbs in general, for the crime of not submitting to Nato and accepting perpetual subjugation. Your website knows this very well and it’s surprising you’d post such useless propaganda.

In the early-mid 90s I met many people from the former Yugoslavia who had come because of the war. There were Muslims, Orthodox Christians, and Roman Catholics. All of them saw it as a religious war(s). Some had relatives involved, and some had been threatened by neighbours. One couple were Orthodox, she a Croat, he a Serb. They lived in Bosnia and were threatened by Muslims in the neighbourhood. It reminded me of my friend’s father talking about why his father moved to Canada. The story was that a Catholic neighbour came to the grandfather and said, if you don’t leave, I’m going to have to kill you.
I attended a dinner where the guest speaker was Lewis MacKenzie and the topic was his time in Sarajevo. His message was clear: there were no “good guys” in Yugoslavia. All of the factions were doing the same thing. If the people opposing Mladic were heroes, so was he.
