Supposedly Syria Didn’t Have Russia’s Green Light to Use S-300s vs Israeli Jets…Until Now

Then what was the point of delivering them?

Editor’s note: I’m not sure I buy this, but I’m reproducing it anyway because it’s far from the first time I heard this be said — that Syria’s S-300 were actually still controlled by Russia which doesn’t want them used against Israel. It’s just as likely however that due to the fact that Israel has been mainly launching missiles from outside Syrian airspace or has been using topography and the curvature of the earth in such a way that Syrians did not yet get a chance to launch an S-300 missile against them. (Yes the S-300 has a very long range but there is such a thing as the curvature of the earth which means it covers a very wide area only against high-flying aircraft but not against low-flying ones.) Recall that S-300s were provided to Syria when a Russian aircraft was lost during an Israeli strike. If S-300s were not brought in to oppose the Israelis then what the heck were they brought in for?

The Russian Armed Forces have allegedly given the Syrian military the green light to use their S-300 system against Israeli warplanes that enter their airspace, the Russian aviation publication Avia.Pro reported.

“Against the background of how Israel was repeatedly seen striking at Syria despite the previously reached agreements between Russia and Israel, a source told Avia.pro that the Syrian military received permission to use its air defense systems in case of the slightest threat from Israel, provided that the Syrian side bears responsibility for such actions,” Avia.Pro said.

Despite completing the installation of their S-300 batteries in the Masyaf area of Hama this year, the Syrian Armed Forces have yet to use these air defense systems against the Israeli warplanes that have repeatedly bombed the country.

However, based on what Avia.Pro has reported, the Syrian Armed Forces appear to be reliant on the Russian military to use these air defense systems against the Israeli Air Force jets that violate their airspace.

“Russia allowed the Syrian military to put the S-300 on full alert and attack Israeli aircraft in the event of the slightest threat,” a military source told Avia.Pro.

The effectiveness of the S-300 against the Israeli Air Force has been in question since its installation, as the latter has carried out attacks as far east as the Deir Ezzor Governorate and as far north as Aleppo.

Information regarding this appeared a day after Israeli F-35 fighter jets struck targets in Syria, completely ignoring Moscow’s position on the issue.

According to some reports, before the end of this month, the Syrian Arab Army may receive the BAVAR-373 Iranian air defense system. Iran claims that the system is allegedly capable of detecting stealth targets, potentially including the Israeli F-35 fighter jets, at distances up to 150-180 kilometers.

In recent weeks Israeli has significantly ramped up its airstrikes on Syrian territory, allegedly targeting Iranian facilities and personnel.

Most recently, on September 17th, Israel struck positions at the Iraqi-Syrian border near al-Qa’im and al-Bukamal.

This was the second strike within a month on the same allegedly Iranian military base.

The previous occasion when the same location was struck by Israeli warplanes was on September 8th.

Following the most recent strike there were no reports of casualties, but the September 8th one allegedly killed several service members.

On the very next day, Israel Defense Forces (IDF) claimed that Iranian-backed militants had launched attacks on the country from within Syria, potentially being the reason for the strike on al-Bukamal.

It is also likely that all of these took place leading up to the snap General Elections in Israel that took place on September 17th.

Even the most recent attack took place on election day, it could have potentially been aimed as showing that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu brings “victories” to Israel and is necessary to ensure security.

Nothing but “pablum” for the masses.
    Pure speculation.
There could be a multitude of reasons for the Syrians not engaging it S-300 ADS.

We lowly Humans are not entitled to type of info, and it is set forth in the media, to accomplish exactly this…. get the serfs to argue and bitch amongst themselves.
The ONLY important item IS: Syria NEVER fired it’s ADS when being attacked from the air.
    Why?
    Argue amongst yourselves.

What ever the reason, I thing we can all agree that Syria would NOT exist today if it were not for Russian intervention. Whatever the reason.
The next few months should prove to be very interesting as the Syrians prepare an Offensive in Idlib and then cross the Empathies. If or when the SAA and militias go after the US and Kurds…then the S-300 ADS will be of great importance. And if does not protect the SAA from US, Turk and is-ra-hell aircraft… THEN the situation will become very interesting.

IMO Russia did not “intervene” in Syria.
Russia has been requested by syrian government to help and support Syria’s defensive war against ISIS and NATO scum which had the intent to steal the country to become the next enclave for zio-Israel.

It’s probably because the damned Jews use civilian aircraft as stalking horse.

Stavka insisted on the delivery of the S300 to Syria in view of NATO and Israeli attacks, Putin kind of interfered and tried to keep the possibility of wider war from breaking out.

Plus the fact that Israhell is almost a member of HATO and participates in NATO exercises aimed at Russia.

With that in mind, if Russia were to directly strike against ISR, it could be construed as “an attack against NATO” et voila WWIII. This is probably why Russia is insisting that Syria take full responsibility for any shooting down of ISR F-35s etc. It is also in line with Russia’s position in Syria of being a support for the SAA, but they have to do the heavy lifting, it is to be THEIR victory not Russia’s.

NATO. Adherence to the instructions, a country member will be assisted in defending itselfs if attacked, by a none-NATO member.
IMO, Israhell is not a member of NATO.

        1. Gonzogal says

you are right Israel is not a full member of NATO, (something I did not say), however as the first linked article in my comment above it is a DE-FACTO member.

To operate such a sophisticated and high-modern installation we have to realize that a thorough training is mandatory and required otherwise the whole (beautiful) system goes under cause operating in the wrong or not enough knowledge how to operate.

So, while the installations have been delivered “overnight” to Syria I can imagine the conditions put to Syria AA to first have a full training.

IMO, the MSM shouts “Syria gets approval from Russia to use their S-300 now” is just a gaff from them.
Russia and Syria know what they are doing.
Air hegemony of zio-Israel ends now, S-300 is in full operation.

IMO, it is time for the zio-IDF pilots to take pampers with them for it is getting excited for them during the flight. They have to walk back to Israel after trying to attack Syria.
    That is it.

    1. jeffrey exposito says

The reason Russia is hesitant in allowing Syria to use the S300 is because Russia is afraid of getting embarrassed and having its arms industries reputation tarnished once Israel starts destroying Syrias S300 installations. That’s the risk one takes when one over hypes a weapon system such as the Russians have with the S300 and S400. Russia is really not as confident in either the S300 and S400 as one might think despite all of the bluster.

      1. DarkEyes says

        Improbable IMO.

Russians are not selling weaponry like the sophisticated S-300s and -400s systems without being sure it is functioning as designed.
        I trust them in that.

The Russian mentality is different from the US one.

The Russian one is patience and perfection, the US one is hurry and make profits.

  6. John Rourke says

Eventually,( or maybe just wishful thinking on my part) ,a country will need to strike back at Israeli air attacks to stop it or will just continue..As the saying goes..”A good Defense is a good Offence.
