Once “Prosperity” Falters, the Legitimacy of the Status Quo Evaporates

"All we're doing is waiting for the fake 'prosperity' to crumble, and the resulting loss of credibility will follow like night follows day"

“A broken, unfair system will be tolerated as long as every participant feels they’re getting a few shreds of improvement”

The citizenry of corrupt regimes ruled by self-serving elites tolerate this oppressive misrule for one reason and only one reason: increasing prosperity, which we can define as continual improvement in material well-being and financial security.

The legitimacy of every corrupt regime ruled by self-serving elites hangs on this single thread: once prosperity fades, the legitimacy of the regime evaporates, as the citizenry have no reason to tolerate their rapacious, predatory overlords.

A broken, unfair system will be tolerated as long as every participant feels they’re getting a few shreds of improvement. This is why there is such an enormous push of propaganda touting “growth”; if the citizenry can be conned into believing that their deteriorating well-being and security are actually “prosperity,” then they will continue to grant the status quo some measure of credibility and legitimacy.

When the gap between the propaganda and reality widens to the breaking point, the regime loses its credibility and legitimacy. This manifests in a number of ways:

1. Nobody believes anything the state or its agencies reports as “fact”: since it misreported economic well-being and security to benefit the few at the expense of the many, why believe anything official?

2. Increased lawlessness: since the Ruling Elites get away with virtually everything, why we should we obey the laws?

3. Opting out: rather than become a target for the state’s oppressive organs of security, the safer path is to opt out: quit supporting a parasitic and predatory Status Quo of corporations and the state with your labor, slip into the shadows of the economy, avoid debt like the plague, get by on a fraction of your former income.

4. Breakdown of Status Quo political parties: since all parties are bands of self-serving thieves, what’s the point of even nominal membership?

5. Increasing reliance on anti-depression and anti-anxiety medications, more self-medication/drug use, and other manifestations of social stress and breakdown.

6. Those who can move away from crumbling high-tax cities, essentially giving up civic hope for fair, affordable solutions to rising inequality and social disorder.

7. Increasing defaults and bankruptcies as households and enterprises no longer see any other way out.

8. Increasing mockery of financial/corporate media parroting the propaganda that “prosperity” is real and rising– S&P 500 hits 3,000, we’re all getting better in every way, every day, etc.

Truth is the most essential form of capital, and once it has been squandered to serve insiders, vested interests and Ruling Elites, the nation is morally, spiritually, politically and financially bankrupt.  All we’re doing is waiting for the fake “prosperity” to crumble, and the resulting loss of credibility and legitimacy will follow like night follows day.

…ahhh, then according to the author’s criteria the u.s. people should be rioting like the yellow vests in FR, right?

the fake prosperity has already crumbled. hasn’t the author had an opportunity to look at the devastation in the cities of the u.s., britain? where is the backlash? has the suicide rate for “middle-class” workers been decreasing?

there is another element the author has not adressed and that is the dumbed down drug addled mentality of the citizenry. a citizenry that is fighting itself and hating itself. this is the u.s. today. a society more interested in its animal nature than in anything else. how’s porn hub doing these days? is the church still buggering the little altar boys? still marrying off your daughters at the age of 13 in KY? how’s the abortion rate for black american women looking these days? has the author paid any attention to the idiots that are sitting in congress or prepping to run for POTUS in 2020?

truth is relative. look at MSM and social media.

a nation that is morally, spiritually, politically and financially bankrupt does not rise up in protest. it is ripe to be ruled by the very elite the author says are in trouble. it doesn’t matter if the status quo is legitimate or not, it still rules.

another feel good article of little merit when one looks at what’s happening on the streets

Your comments are very insightful, but we have to remember that there are over 300 million American citizens who have been poorly educated by the design of American political and corporate power..and you are right in that they are now just simpletons enjoying whatever crumbs they can get – including big expensive cars (how dumb) and big expensive homes (total ignorance of reality)…so, they aren’t going to go out and protest in public….they have better things to do: play with their toys as long as they can and the future be damned.
Then there are the totally uneducated and poor living in squalor – how unlike how America likes to portray itself!- in properties owned by the same people captioned in the above statement…..The poor and the fairly middle class continue to decline and no one is really talking about it because that would make it real!! But if they read a recent UN report (after lengthy investigations) that states that 70% of Americans live BELOW THE POVERTY LEVEL, I think they will wake up….possibly..

What you say makes a lot of sense. However it is not the system’s fault entirely. At one time, there were a lot of dedicated teachers in the schools.I don’t know how that is today. Also, at one time, the parents supported the teachers and did their part in raising their children. I watched that support disappear as father and mother went to work w/o a corresponding social net for children to be put in place. I watched as discipline was traded for student self-expression in the schools. I watched as teachers no longer taught or were able to teach and were more like guards in a fenceless prison. Schools have become profit centers, drug distribution centers, pedophile playgrounds and children have become throwaways in pursuit of govt. entitlements. It is just another sad aspect of a civilization that at one time had so much promise. And as you noted, it is exactly what the elitists want… someone to harvest the cotton or the wheat or fight the wars or whatever …only this time it won’t only be in the southern states and it won’t only be people of color. So sad.

Chapeau….. greatly responded
however….. the article in itself is not wrong either. … as the situation you described fits mainly to the UNITED SNAKES OF AMERICA and partially to the UK….. for France (aka Europe) there is still hope

France is not exactly a beacon of hope given the brutal response of the elite. Yes the yellow vests are fantastic but the rest of the population are just as apathetic and useless as Britain and America. Most of the rest of Europe is even worse. Until we see truly mass demonstrations and arrest of the criminals in power I have no hope of anything except decline.

I am confident.. .. very….. that a few more “drops” of bad elitists oppression combined with criminal behavior of our new “citizen” from Africa and Middle Eastern countries will lead to total chaos and this is than the new “French Revolution” spreading all over Europe.. .. the mood is already boiling…… waiting only for the spark. .. the right one

Europe and the US the new Libyia/ Syria/ Iraq soon then. I’m hoping it’s soon before the new arrivals completely outnumber us. The criminal elite will be long gone anyway.

Here is the roadmap for the American People! No more investing in Wall St schemes, which is really what they are….pumped up to look like real investments, which they are NOT! This article has all the information necessary to live safely in the face of a government for the corporations…and the old adage: “The US government exists to protect and defend the corporations and the rich ~ The Military exists to back the government in that endeavor” is one that no American should forget and always keep on the front burner…doesn’t that make you wonder why the military grunts even make the decision to join up and basically fight against their own people?!?!?
