Multiple Green Berets Dead After Afghan Policeman Turns Machinegun on US and Afghan Special Forces

Mowed down as they were waiting for a helicopter

The two KIA are named as Javier Jaguar Gutierrez and Antonio Rey Rodriguez

Yesterday, a Special Forces team was ambushed in Afghanistan by a rogue Afghan policeman. Two American commandos have been killed and six wounded. In addition, at least eight Afghan commandos have died as a result of the attack.

Sources with intimate knowledge of the incident told SOFREP that the Greens Berets of Operational Detachment Alpha (ODA) 73## and the company command team of # Company, 3rd Battalion, 7th Special Forces Group (#/3/7) had just finished a Key Leader Engagement (KLE) with local leaders when they were ambushed. The American element, which was accompanied by a partner force of Afghan Special Operations Forces (ANSOF) had moved to a nearby field to wait for extraction by helicopter. While they were in a Pickup Zone (PZ) posture, the rogue Afghan policeman attacked. The individual essentially mowed down the Special Forces operators and their partner force element with a heavy machinegun.

A Green Beret and a Special Operations Team-Alpha (SOT-A) soldier, who was attached to the team, were killed on the spot. The company executive officer was shot in the chest and is in critical condition; the company Sergeant Major was shot in the head. The rest of the American WIAs have gunshot wounds to the legs. All casualties have been evacuated to U.S. medical facilities.

Colonel Sonny Leggett, the spokesperson for U.S. Forces-Afghanistan (USFOR-A) said that “an individual in an Afghan uniform opened fire on the combined U.S. and Afghan force with a machine gun. The motive behind the attack is unknown at this time. The incident is under investigation.”

The Green-on-Blue (friendly forces attacking U.S. troops) incident took place in the Sherzad district of Nangarhar Province, which is located in eastern Afghanistan.

SOT-A soldiers are attached to Special Forces ODAs and provide tactical Signals Intelligence (SIGINT) and Electronic Warfare (EW) capabilities.

ODAs are comprised of 12 Green Berets and specialize in Unconventional Warfare (UW), Foreign Internal Defence (FID), Direct Action (DA), and Special Reconnaissance (SR), among other things.

Colonel John W. Sannes, the commanding officer of the 7th SFG, said in a brief press statement that “several 7th Special Forces Group (Airborne) Soldiers were injured or killed during combat operations in Afghanistan on February 8, 2020. The 7th Special Forces Group Headquarters is poised to support the Service Members and their families during this difficult time.” Adding that “the families of the deceased and wounded are being notified. In accordance with DoD policy, the names of the causalities are being withheld until 24 hours after their next of kin notification is complete.”

WTF?!? A rogue policeman in his own country shooting at the invading military?!?
That is not “Rogue”..That is fighting against the enemy. The Americans sure know how to make enemies out of the world…they are in Middle Easrtern countries against those countries’ will…and even the US State Dept doesn’t know why they are there, let alone
the military people wondering why….no clue! Just violence and murdering….their MO..

Meanwhile over in Syria no need for SAA to confront the Americans, as Assad has said, the people will take care of them.

    1) Live by the gun, die by the gun.
    2) Most Americans think combat is something you go to so you can tell your buddies about it back home. No, you can get killed too.
    3) These “operators” are old enough to have been able to ask valid questions about 9-11 and therefore reconsider being in uniform at this time. Or chosen a different specialty.

apparently Afghans prefer civilization vs amerikan barbarism and fake democracy….as Philip Slater wrote, “amerikans have always been genocidal, enjoying killing from afar.”
Hunter Thompson: “we r really just 300 million used car salesmen that have no qualms about killing anybody that makes us uncomfortable.”

Warfare never changes – this ambush has been going on since the first Invaders – got bushwacked , – 1000 years ago . Today in America, even the Moms, Dads, or Wifes get paid big money for their sons death in the ME . Where are the Gold Star families outrage at a war that has been going on for 2 decades? Where are the protests ? I figure the KIA in ME is close to 100,000 , but the Gov./DOD will never release any records – Deny Deny Deny – Time to build another Wall in Washington – on top of the other Black one.

      great post Garry,
as a Korean war vet who survived that! I’m supporting TULSI and then Bernie ,
America is on the ropes for infrastructure replacement and updating , America has no fast trains China has 2700 miles and can restrict ail travel to longer destinations! reducing pollution massively ,nothing pollutes as much as air travel! Not even coal fired electric or gas guzzelling SUV’s ! America is spending the $’s that would by a green future for our kid’s on disasters in foreign lands to make profits for the war industry!
Think about that ? Do you benefit ? Mrs. and Mr. America.

      1. Garry Compton says

Totally agree M M. All that infrastructure and the repairs would put some folks back to work also – poor Bernie needs to go Independent as the deck is stacked against him – again. Close to 1 trillion bucks for foreign aid and the Pentagon. ” Some body spare me a dime ” I was next to the ROK army in Nam – they had a small camp in the Mekong Delta. I’d see them doing their pt and tai kwon do in the mornings. Once upon a time in Asia – like a dream – a long time ago ….

And who on earth can blame an Afghan for shooting Americans after 18 years of bombing peasants

I’m only surprised it doesn’t happen more often.

Something the Americans just can’t seem to understand. If it was a life for a life maybe they would get it then.

I’m sorry for the guys who were killed and their families. But, they applied for the job without considering that they were nothing but disposable mercenaries for the ZioNazi World Order.

Afghanistan belongs to the Taliban – whether the US boogies tomorrow or in 20 years, the Taliban will be in the Kabul offices before the last helicopter is out of sight. Deal with it.

    1. Canosin says

why sorry? for those mercenaries? would you be sorry for their victims (mainly civilians ……), too? look at the above picture……what are these murders doing there?
why are they still there doing atrocities without restrains……? and for whom?

      1. Robert Mcconnell says

Exactly. They should be sent back to America in garbage bags.

    2. Séamus Ó Néill says

There is a big problem in American society, 20+ million innocent people butchered by these mercenary thugs since WW11, 70 sovereign countries invaded for their natural resources and not a voice of objection. At home these bullying terrorists are lauded as hero’s. This is sold to the dumbed down American population as bringing freedom and democracy, whilst in reality it’s the jackboot of American fascism ……as bad as anything Hitler, Stalin or any other perverted monster inflicted on the world !

      1. tapatio says

There are a LOT of voices objecting, but not in our mainstream media. I’ve been doing so since 1971, as have many thousands of others.
