Mission Update: NATO’s New Enemy Is “Chinese Communist Party”, Pompeo Tells Alliance

With the US establishment’s attention firmly fixed on the impeachment hearings in Washington, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo seems to have expanded NATO’s mission into the Far East, to oppose the Communist Party of China.

Speaking at the meeting of NATO ministers of foreign affairs in Brussels on Wednesday, Pompeo said that “our alliance must address the current and potential long-term threat posed by the Chinese Communist Party,” adding that NATO countries cannot ignore the “fundamental differences and beliefs” between themselves and the ruling party in Beijing.

The US Secretary of State framed the anti-China pivot in the context of what he described as NATO’s victory in the Cold War for “the cause of freedom and democracy.”

“Thirty years later, we again face threats from authoritarian regimes, and again we must face them together. Russia, China, Iran – their value systems are simply very different from ours.”

Reporters in Brussels were far more interested in impeachment-related gossip, and none of them asked about China. Pompeo himself brought Beijing up again, when asked about the French and German proposals for reforming NATO, saying that the “critical alliance” has to be structured properly for its ever-changing objectives, and noting that the “threat from the Chinese Communist Party” was not something NATO was thinking about at its founding in 1949.

Will be news to Berlin, Paris and Rome but Euro-poodles followed Uncle Sam to Afghanistan and Central Asia, why not to South China Sea?

Earlier this month, French President Emmanuel Macron argued that NATO was “brain dead” and questioned the US commitment to defend its European allies. Instead, the French president urged, the EU should work on developing its own “military sovereignty.”

The alliance has also struggled to deal with Turkey, which has NATO’s second-largest military, but has been using it to pursue its own policies and interests that sometimes clash with that of the US – such as the recent incursion into northern Syria, aimed at the US-allied Kurdish militias there.

NATO has repeatedly redefined its mission since the end of the Cold War in 1989, finding new reasons for its continued existence, from “humanitarian interventions” in the Balkans to counter-terrorism in the wake of September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks against the US. It has also continued to expand, with the tiny Balkans republic of Montenegro becoming the latest member in 2017, and nearby North Macedonia scheduled for admission soon.

Pompeo increasingly sounds and looks, in many photos, like good old J Edgar Hoover, a man who spent his entire decades-long career talking this way.

Good God, the same stuff from Washington for the best part of a century.

It does tell us something important. America feels very little pressure to speak reasonably about its tireless efforts to dominate.

Any word if Pompeo also likes to wear women’s underwear like J. Edgar did?

Well there it is, straight from the obese one’s mouth, we’ve Russia surrounded ( Europe via NATO has ) now we need to surround China. America, whose sole raison d’être is war death and destruction, will entice Europe to arm now against China…. naturally, with American made systems, making ludicrous profits for the American MIC. If war does come, China and Russia will be severely damaged, Europe will be annihilated and America will have gained its ultimate dream…sole hegemon and master of all it surveys. Slight problem in the fat morons thinking, Russia and China’s weapons are decades in advance of anything the west could dream of, are capable of neutralising their enemies weapons soon after launch and they would, without doubt, retaliate and the blight on the hill would be no more !

the Divided States of Zionist America is rotting from the inside…. world just need to wait and watch… . it will be a “spectacular” show, once the US starts to collapse and civil war takes place

The next US Civil War will be a massively bloody affair as Americans fight to the death … for the last jelly donut in the former USA.

There is no popular support for conflict with either China or Russia, and such support would be very difficult to cultivate, in my view.

And I would rather be ruled by the CPC then the scum that rules me now. There is no question about that.

    1. DarkEyes says

You got a point there. Positive CPC, indeed.

Now there is a reason to go to war!

“Their value systems are different than ours. ”

Yup, DE and FR and the rest of the nato numbskulls are going to attack CN.

The propaganda is centered on the word “Communist”. China is now portrayed as the most Communist nation ever even though Communism died in 1989 when the Soviet Union collapsed and even though China’s economy is one of the world s most diverse including having six free trade zones, Hong Kong as part of China’s overall economy and a middle class larger than America.
Yet the need to use the word “Communist” demonizes China
The biggest fear is China’s inevitable dominance in the Middle East displacing America and as the dominant power and treating Israel as any other nation, not as a nation of “chosen people” believed by most Americans.
Another overwhelming fear is that China is uplifting the Muslim world. An act never done by Western powers since the collapse of the Muslim Empires including the Ottoman Empire and Mughal Empire
No power has invested in the Muslim world like China has and Israel finds that a terrible threat. To see 400 Billion going to Iran after 70 billion went to Pakistan is enough for men like Pompeo to go ballistic on China.
Finally America has failed in the war to control China. Unlike the war against Japan and Toshiba in the 1980’s where America won and Japan lost, this time China is not losing and America is not winning.

Do you have a link for this $400 billion figure?
