Huawei Chief Would Be ‘the First to Protest’ China’s Retaliatory Ban on Apple

Apple serves Chinese consumers and employs Chinese labor and parts, why should China ban it?

Huawei founder and CEO Ren Zhengfei has gone from recluse to media maven as he fights to save the $100 billion company he founded. In an interview with Bloomberg he had a couple of good ones:

“That will not happen, first of all. And second of all, if that happens, I’ll be the first to protest,” Ren said in the interview. “Apple is my teacher, it’s in the lead. As a student, why go against my teacher? Never.”

Zhengfei is wise not to support government bans on businesses. China is wise not to go after Apple, it’s to a considerable extent a de facto Chinese company. It serves Chinese customers and employs Chinese labor and parts. Should China cutt off the nose to spite the face as Trump has done?

“I stole the American technologies from tomorrow. The U.S. doesn’t even have those technologies,” he said. “We are ahead of the U.S. If we were behind, there would be no need for Trump to strenuously attack us.”

Funny guy.
