New comments system coming

In the coming days, the comments system will switch from Disqus to native Word Press. This is because:

  • Disqus holds up a lot of submitted comments for moderation causing extra work for me and delays for you.
  • I’ve learned Disqus collects a lot of data on the users which creates a barrier to entry for the privacy-minded.

The downside is that you’re going to have to create a new Word Press commenting profile, but that’s just a one-time thing. I’m also looking into Word Press Jetpack Comments (or wpDiscuz) upgrade that would allow a few other ways to log in (if it doesn’t slow down the site).

Give it a bit more time, importing the existing comments from Disqus is proving to be buggy and surprisingly heavy on the server.

Well,,, I don’t know of any comment system that doesn’t collect data. I know of two sites taken completely down by WordPress apparently for being too free.

A very popular site now openly admits Google made them censor and ban people to keep their ads and IMO has/is likely restricted/restricting them on what they are allowed to print.

Anti-Empire has many articles that simply don’t show up on these other “alternative sites”. This site deserves more support than I can give.

Now that other popular site wants subscribers to pay for privacy (right…) and speech freedom (right…). Not cheap either. $25 to $85 per month, 1 year up front for “premium service”.

With 30 millions unemployed 60 millions on fixed incomes I wonder if they have thought this out. Those of us that cannot afford this are called Snowflakes on their subscription page.

The age of “free internet” is closing.

The site just uses WP tech but is not hosted by them.

And since WordPress is busily deplatforming those of us who believe in conspiracy theories…

          They can’t deplaform anything. It’s not a WordPress.com site.

              Hi

I just joined wordpress at another site. I believe most here know my thoughts on the covid. I posted them on this site,,, the post never appeared and I no longer can log in to wordpress. It appears I have been banned…. at WP
If you want the website let me know,, I’ll post it. This censoring is disgusting but I guess it’s what they have to do to keep their agenda going.

Since comments are data, how could comments not be counted as data?

Comments will be saved on this site and hosted by its independent host.

What is the independent host independent of?

I’m noticed that my Disqus upvotes were approaching 20,000 last week, but they have fallen into triple digits.
What happens when they get to zero?

I don’t get the purpose or advantages of using Disqus on systems that run WP software.
