After Hosting 500,000 Bikers Over Two Weeks Sturgis Mass Testing Finds Just 26 Asymptomatic Cases

Even those could have virus traces from before the rally

Editor’s note: As explained by this New York Times piece, an asymptomatic “case” doesn’t actually mean anything: Your Coronavirus Test Is Positive. Probably It Shouldn’t Be.

The City of Sturgis conducted mass COVID testing for its citizens after welcoming hundreds of thousands of visitors for the 80th annual Motorcycle Rally. Now, the city is announcing the results.

A total of 650 people took advantage of the free testing, with 26 people testing positive for COVID-19.

All of them were asymptomatic at the time of testing.

Sturgis city manager Daniel Ainslie says the rate of confirmed cases is lower than what many people anticipated.

”We’re very happy that our mitigation efforts seem to have worked and that there was very little spread into numerous businesses in our count, and there’s very little spread among our employees in whole, which is very good news,” Ainslie says.

This mass testing is just one of the measures in place to prevent further spread — and the City says they will continue to maintain all their current protocols.

650 is < 10% of the population of Sturgis, with 26 positives representing a 4% infection rate. In a non-random sample, these numbers are meaningless in public health terms. So far, there are 3-digit numbers of cases nationally traceable to the Sturgis Rally, with neighboring MN reporting 15 already. Insofar as it's only been two weeks since the event, all these are on the very early side of becoming symtomatic. Given the middling testing and reporting regime in the US and the fact that COVID can take a month to manifest in symptoms (and maybe get a test), there is little conclusive evidence as to whether the rally was a bad idea or a terrible one as of yet. I have no doubt that, with clustering, there will be a couple of thousand cases at a minimum traceable to this event in the next month or so, however. Sadly, the only reliable figure in the US on the effects of COVID is excess mortality, so it'll be a couple of months more before SD reports those figures, and we can answer this question for the good people of Sturgis. The rest of the dead will be folded into the 200k+ excess deaths that have occurred nationally since March.

Just USE ANOTHER test kit and those 26 “positive” results will be a NEGATIVE!

Please don’t be ridiculous. Most of the attendees were from elsewhere. You have to test every state close enough to for residents to travel to Sturgis for the mass assembly.

After that comment you still have the nerve to call others “ridiculous”?!

“The nerve”? It doesn’t take nerve to state the truth. I hope you aren’t telling me that 500,000 biker, all came from in and around Sturgis!

No need to waste resources in useless RT-qPCR “test”!

Remember that big event at Lake of the Ozarks? CNN went hog wild on that- and the result- nothing, nada, zilch.

How about the national junior wrestling tournaments in Oklahoma this summer? Lots of participants grappling from all over the country, lots of fans and none with masks. Absolutely nothing- nada-zilch.

There is no pandemic and never was.

Mass murder in nursing homes and mass fear mongering that also created numerous deaths for those who needed treatment but instead died at home.

Absolutely as expected, when they can’t fake death certifciates because nobody is dying the politicians claim it was their lunatic lockdowns and stupid rules that saved us. What a pathetic species we are to allow the worst elements amongst us to control us.

Sturgis is looking better all the time for a place to hold a mass quarantine during the second wave.

Every time there is a big gathering of mask-free people, there are all the screams about ‘spreading’, deaths etc. But no one goes back and checks if it was true. It isn’t. Nothing happens after these demonstrations, e.g. Berlin. Because Covid is 95% BS. No mask here … ever. You can wish for me to die … but it isn’t going to happen.

My part of Wyoming is mask-free for the most part.
