2003: Australia Threatens to Fine Retailers Who Exaggerate the Benefit of Masks vs SARS Up to AU$110,000

"Farce mask: it's safe for only 20 minutes"

Retailers who cash in on community fears about SARS by exaggerating the health benefits of surgical masks could face fines of up to $110,000. NSW Fair Trading Minister Reba Meagher yesterday warned that distributors and traders could be prosecuted if it was suggested the masks offered unrealistic levels of protection from the disease.

“I’m sure everyone would agree that it is un-Australian to profiteer from people’s fears and anxieties,” Ms Meagher said.

“There appears to be some debate about whether surgical masks are able to minimise the effects of SARS.” Ms Meagher said her department would investigate any complaints about false mask claims which concerned the public.

“Penalties can range from fines of up to $22,000 for an individual or $110,000 for a corporation,” she said. Health authorities have warned that surgical masks may not be an effective protection against the virus.

“Those masks are only effective so long as they are dry,” said Professor Yvonne Cossart of the Department of Infectious Diseases at the University of Sydney.

“As soon as they become saturated with the moisture in your breath they stop doing their job and pass on the droplets.” Professor Cossart said that could take as little as 15 or 20 minutes, after which the mask would need to be changed. But those warnings haven’t stopped people snapping up the masks, with retailers reporting they are having trouble keeping up with demand.

John Bell from the Pharmaceutical Society of Australia, who owns a pharmacy in Woollahra, Sydney, said mask supplies were running low. “At the moment we don’t have any because we haven’t been able to get any in the last few days,” MrBell said. “In the early stages it was unbelievable; we’d get people coming in all the time.”

Mr Bell agreed with Professor Cossart’s assessment regarding the effectiveness of the masks.

“I think they’re of marginal benefit,” he said. “In a way they give some comfort to people who think they’re doing as much as they can do to prevent the infection.” That seems to be the mentality of travellers to Asian destinations, who are buying and wearing the masks while overseas.

Rosemary Taylor, of Kirribilli, arrived in Sydney from Shanghai last week after a two-week holiday in China. Ms Taylor and travelling companion Joan Switzer had worn the masks during the trip home, even though they had been warned they were of little value. “We were told you need 16 layers on your mask for it to offer 95per cent protection,” Ms Taylor said.

Masks are dangerous if worn for longer than an hour or so. OSHA has rules where mask wearing is necessary.

They want you to wear mask so that you will reinhale the garbage your body tries to eliminate. This will get you bacterial pneumonia and could kill you making them happy as you would become another Sars 2 death.

Another benefit to them for rebreathing your exhale is it will also increase the positives of the useless PCR test. Lets ASSUME the virus is real. Your body attacks the virus, breaks it up and gets rid of it through exhale. You are masked up so 50% of the garbage including the virus particles are sucked back in when you inhale. This 50% increases the longer you wear the mask. Soon your inhaling 70-80% of the junk your body is trying to eliminate.

People,,, you are doing yourselves a disservice wearing a mask. The more efficient the mask is the worse it is on you. If you do wear one it should be for no longer than an hour with at least 3-4 hours without a mask to clear out the garbage you reinhaled.

The unelected public-health appointees who are making the rules in most countries now know that face masks don’t do anything significant to stop the spread of coronavirus – they must; it’s their professional responsibility to know. There are plenty of hints that wearing masks is a political initiative, that it gives the busybodies something to do instead of bothering the politicians, and that public-health officers are aware it makes people feel like something is being done to protect them. But since the masking in public indoor spaces mandate went into effect here (western Canada) in mid-November, I observe pretty much 100% compliance; I never see anyone in stores or retail shops without a mask, and I would estimate at least 85% of people I see wear them outside as well even though there is no order to that effect. It has been a stunningly successful psyop. Nonetheless, according to the BC ‘COVID dashboard’, there have been 690 new cases today, not statistically far off the peak of November 25th, when there were 945.

The provincial health officer claimed she was ‘concerned’ when ‘new cases’ went over 100 per day.She finally yielded to pressure from the quackers in the press, and imposed an indoor-public-spaces masking order. They now claim the 7-day moving average is 468.4 new cases per day, but that allows considerable leeway considering today’s figure, the fact that even at the peak of 945 per day the 7-day moving average was much less at 773.6 and the pressure for masks to be ‘working’.

Given a two-week maturation cycle, masks have been the law of the land, we have been through no less than 6 coronavirus cycles, yet the new-cases count remains above 600 per day. In mid-July when almost nobody wore a mask inside public spaces and masks outside were a real rarity, the 7-day moving average was 77.

Of course the higher the number of positive cases, the faster the virus spreads – that’s what it has engineered itself to do, and everybody gets that. But it seems pretty clear that wearing masks is not doing anything significant to slow the pace, given that strict social-distancing requirements and a complete ban on ‘gatherings’ of anything other than immediate family living in your household are also in place and enforced.

What infuriates me most is that there will never be any sort of apology for making us walk around looking like sock monkeys in ritualistic ‘PPE’ that does not work. That will never be acknowledged – instead, the deception that heroic public-health officials ‘made the tough calls’ and saved many, many lives will be preserved, and will eventually become history. The dissenting voices, and there are many, including those of health professionals, will be ignored, ‘for the common good’.
